The standard 20mg/ml concentration is the recommended starting point for most FIP cases:
- Wet FIP — dose of 6 mg/kg/day
- Dry FIP — dose of 8 mg/kg/day
- Ocular FIP — dose of 10 mg/kg/day
- Cats weighing less than 5kg
- Cases that do not involve the nervous system
When Should You Choose 30mg/ml for FIP?
The advanced 30mg/ml concentration is recommended in the following cases:
- Neurological FIP — dose of 10 mg/kg/day
- Cats weighing more than 5kg
- Severe cases that require a faster response
- When the daily injection volume is too large with 20mg/ml
The main advantage of 30mg/ml is a smaller injection volume for the same dose, which reduces discomfort for the cat.
Practical Comparison: A 4kg Cat with Wet FIP
- Required dose: 4kg × 6mg = 24mg daily
- With 20mg/ml: 24 ÷ 20 = 1.2ml daily
- With 30mg/ml: 24 ÷ 30 = 0.8ml daily
In this case, both concentrations are suitable, but 20mg/ml is completely sufficient.
Practical Comparison: A 4kg Cat with Neurological FIP
- Required dose: 4kg × 10mg = 40mg daily
- With 20mg/ml: 40 ÷ 20 = 2ml daily
- With 30mg/ml: 40 ÷ 30 = 1.33ml daily
Here, 30mg/ml is preferred to reduce the daily injection volume.
Can You Switch Between Concentrations During Treatment?
Yes. You can switch between 20mg/ml and 30mg/ml during the protocol as long as the daily dose in milligrams remains the same. The important point is to maintain the same dose in milligrams, not the same volume in milliliters.
