Grounded in Science: The Research Behind GS-441524

The treatment we provide at FIP Cure Plus is not experimental — it is backed by peer-reviewed veterinary science.

The foundation of modern FIP treatment was established by Dr. Niels C. Pedersen and his team at the University of California, Davis Center for Companion Animal Health. In a landmark clinical study, Dr. Pedersen demonstrated that GS-441524 — a nucleoside analogue antiviral — could effectively suppress the FIP virus in cats with naturally occurring disease across all forms, including wet FIP, dry FIP, and neurological FIP.

The results of that study exceeded expectations. 25 out of 31 cats treated with GS-441524 achieved sustained remission, and disease relapses that did not respond to retreatment occurred in only one cat treated with GS-441524 — a remarkable outcome compared to earlier treatment options.

Since that initial research, the body of evidence supporting GS-441524 has continued to grow. A systematic review covering 650 FIP cases treated with GS-441524 reported an overall treatment success rate of 84.6%, with outcomes varying based on FIP form, severity, and dosage precision. 

Furthermore, by day 14 of treatment, not only had clinical signs disappeared in treated cats, but viral RNA was also no longer detectable in the blood, indicating that all cats had cleared viremia — a finding that demonstrates just how powerfully GS-441524 works when administered correctly and at the right dose. n
