The 84-Day FIP Treatment Protocol: What to Expect at Each Stage

Why Exactly 84 Days?

The 84-day (12-week) protocol is the scientifically established duration for ensuring the FIP virus is completely eliminated. Stopping early greatly increases the risk of relapse.

Correct Doses Throughout the Protocol FIP

  • Wet: 6 mg/kg/day
  • Dry: 8 mg/kg/day
  • Ocular: 10 mg/kg/day
  • Neurological: 10 mg/kg/day

Do not reduce the dose even if the cat improves. Weigh your cat weekly and adjust the dose if its weight changes.

Stage One FIP: Weeks 1–4

This is the critical stage that determines the cat's response to treatment.

  • Improved appetite during the first two weeks — an early positive sign
  • Reduced fever during the first few days
  • In wet FIP: fluid begins to decrease during the first two weeks
  • Do not stop treatment even if the cat appears well

Stage Two FIP: Weeks 5–8

  • Continue treatment daily without interruption
  • Perform a complete blood test to confirm improvement
  • Monitor liver and kidney function
  • Gradual weight gain

Stage Three: Weeks 9–12

  • Complete the protocol through day 84 — do not stop early
  • Final blood test in week 12
  • The cat appears completely well — this is normal; continue

Observation Stage: After Day 84

  • Monitor for an additional 12 weeks
  • Perform a blood test every month during observation
  • If relapse symptoms appear, contact us immediately

Important Tips Throughout the Protocol

  • Give your cat fresh natural food (chicken, fish)
  • Do not use fluoroquinolone antibiotics
  • Do not use lysine with GS-441524
  • Weigh your cat weekly and adjust the dose
